Beginning on May 26, the U.S. government announced to provide work permits to the spouses of H-1B visa holders. This move of the U.S. government is expected to benefit a large number of talented and professional spouses who came to America with H-1B visa holders but were unable to work. The spouses of H-1B visa holders are not permitted to work in the U.S. under the present law conditions. The move is welcomed by thousands of spouses and came as most awaited good news. According to the announcement made, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will start accepting work permit applications from H-1B spouses on May, 26.
Eligibility Criteria to Apply for Work Permit:
To be eligible to apply for work permits the individuals should be:
- H-4 dependent spouses of H-1B non-immigrant (principal H-1B worker)
- The beneficiaries of approved Form I-140
- Beneficiaries of Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker
